Greetings! As I am sitting here at my desk with my space heater helping me to keep warm, I am missing my green lawn, fresh cut grass smells, the bright, warm sun, my own garden veggies and the colors that stream from my perennials and annuals around my home. Yes, the duldrums of winter have set in. We have had a nice winter, but still, it's not the same when we can't get out to enjoy what we grow! So this month, I wanted to encourage you to remember a few tips that can help take the winter blues away and add a little light to your life.
1. Don't' forget about your house plants. These can give your home life and color throughout the year. With proper care, this small addition to your decor can help bring happiness to your home.
2. Grow your own herbs! Make a mini garden of herbs in small pots in your home that you can enjoy year round. Use them fresh or dry them to use later. In the spring you can transfer them outside if you wish.
3. Treat yourself to fresh cut flowers! Go on, you deserve it. Get a bunch of your favorite varieties and colors to enjoy on your table or counter and bring summer to you now.
Even though we are in the middle of our long Minnesotan winter, we can still enjoy some of our home grown happiness. Instead of wishing this winter away, sit back and enjoy it a little more today.
